District description
San Blas-Canillejas (formerly San Blas) is one of the 21 districts that make up the city of Madrid, administratively organized into neighborhoods named as Simancas, Hellín, Amposta, Arcos, Rosas, Rejas, Canillejas and Salvador. It limits to the north with the districts of Hortaleza and Barajas through Avenida de América (Autovía del Nordeste). To the East, with the municipalities of San Fernando de Henares (through the San Fernando bridge, belonging to the Municipality of Madrid) and Coslada, as well as with the District of Vicálvaro (through the road from Vicálvaro to Coslada). To the south it also borders with this last district through the R-3 highway, the avenue from Canillejas to Vicálvaro and the M-40 ring road. To the west, it borders the Ciudad Lineal district through the avenue of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza (former Hermanos García Noblejas street) and the streets of Alcalá and General Aranaz. It is both residential (Simancas, San Blas) and industrial (Polígono Empresarial Julián Camarillo and Polígono Empresarial Las Mercedes near the Barcelona A-2 highway). Its population as of January 1, 2019 was 158,166 inhabitants according to the statistics portal of the Madrid City Council. In the district of San Blas-Canillejas, there are 31 nurseries (5 public and 26 private), 14 public schools for infant and primary education, 8 secondary schools and 14 private schools (with and without a concert).
