Villaverde (17th District of Madrid) is one of the 21 districts that make up the city of Madrid. It is located in the extreme south of the municipality. Previously, it was an independent municipality, the last to be absorbed by Madrid, on July 31, 1954.

The district of Villaverde limits to the west with the municipality of Leganés, to the south with Getafe, to the east with the district of Villa de Vallecas through the Manzanares river limit, and to the north with the district of Usera, separating from this through the Madrid ring road M-40.

Its average altitude oscillates between 603 m in Los Angeles and 596 m in the neighborhood of San Andrés. The area of ​​the district is 2028.65 ha.

However, prior to the annexation by Madrid, the municipality of Villaverde included, in addition to the current district, most of the current Usera district and a small part of Vallecas.

The Villaverde district is divided into five neighborhoods: Villaverde Alto (San Andrés), San Cristóbal, Butarque, Los Rosales and Los Ángeles. The Butarque neighborhood is separated from the rest of the district by the railway lines.

In the Villaverde district, there are 25 nursery schools (6 public and 19 private), 19 public schools for infant and primary education, 5 secondary schools, one of which is bilingual (San Cristóbal), 11 private schools (with and without concert).
