Moratalaz is one of the 21 districts that make up the city of Madrid. It is located to the southeast of the capital and administratively divided into the neighborhoods of Pavones (14.1), Horcajo (14.2), Marroquina (14.3), Media Legua (14.4), Fontarrón (14.5) and Vinateros (14.6). It has a population of 95,036 people and an area of 6.34 km², which gives it a population density of 14,989 inhabitants/km². The old Huerta de Moratalaz was located on the western bank of the Abroñigal stream, while the Moratalaz farm was on the eastern bank, in Vicálvaro. It is located to the east of the municipality of Madrid, and has an area of 634.42 ha,2 of which 131.92 (20.79%) correspond to green areas. It is bounded by four highways: M-30 to the west; M-40 to the east; A-3 to the south and the M-23 (O'Donnell axis) to the north. In turn, Moratalaz borders the districts of: Vicálvaro, to the east, separated by the M-40. Puente de Vallecas, to the south, separated by the A-3. Retiro, to the west, separated by the M-30 Ciudad Lineal, to the north (La Elipa neighborhood), separated by the M-23. In the Moratalaz district, there are 20 nurseries (3 public and 17 private), 10 public schools for infant and primary education, 6 secondary education institutes and 7 private schools (with and without a concert). Moratalaz is recognized as one of the safest districts in Madrid according to the last Security Council held in April 2011. During the previous period, a total of 2,142 crimes and 2,443 misdemeanors were committed, with robberies committed inside establishments having a special incidence. , usually through the butrón procedure, and robberies or thefts inside vehicles.
